more info
Michael Griener and jayrope had initial contact in Mai 1999 for a concert at Berlin’s Haus der Kulturen der Welt as part of a short European tour of Kip Hanrahan.
This was followed by two shows at Berliner Jazzfest 1999 aswell as the 13e Rencontres Internationales de d‘jazz de Nevers – both as part of the Group Alliance, the two then continued to work as a duo under the name KIMMO ELOMAA.
Their first recordings of March 2001 got awarded with a funding price of the Berlin Senator for Cultural Affairs. These recordings aswell as the funded following of February 2002 are to be heard in parts on the enclosed CD.

It must be the very different musical socialisation of the two, that builds the base for this music. It is improvises along the lines of such different styles such as Musique Concrete, Jazz, Digital Hardcore and contemporary eletronic music.
It is a conscious decision then to leave computerbased audio processing behind in favor of immediacy and drama, and this impact is what substantially and even physically communicates their music to the audience.
Sounds of drums and vibraphone are being manipulated in real timeand played back into the room.
Michael Griener’s drum feel and playing aswell as jayrope’s feedbacks and improvised loops are performed with such virtuosity, that they manage to takethemselves and everyone around to steadily new and surprising structures and experience, easily overtaking the oftenly deadlocked character of modern computer music.
